This recipe is a variation from the traditional one. I have added some ingredients to make it nutritious. Very simple and the powder can be stored for 1 month in an airtight container.(that is if it doen’st finish off.)
Ingredients
For the podi (powder)
- Til (sesame)seeds – 2 tablespoons
- Groundnut- 1/2 cup
- Red chillies – 4 nos
- Urad dal – 1 table spoon
- Channa dal – 1 table spoon
- Til oil – 1 table spoon
- Salt to taste
For the Rice
- Rice – 1 cup
- Ghee – 2 teaspoons
- Curry – 1 twig
Method
- Dry roast the til seeds . Allow to cool and grind in a mixer.
- Heat oil and fry all ingredients till golden.
- Allow to cool and grind along with the til already in the mixer.
- Store the ellu podi (powder) in an air tight container.
For the Rice
- Wash the rice and pressure cook with 2 cups water.
- Transfer the rice to a shallow dish and add the ghee and chopped curry leaves.
- Mix with 1 cup of the ellupodi lightly without breaking the grains, with a *thuduppu.
- Transfer to a serving bowl and serve with papads or chips.
*A flat ladle used to turn dosa helps to mix rice with out breaking the grains.
