The ‘yum’ blog is a collection of random musings on all things ‘yum’ and ‘tasty’ that make life so good – from mouth watering recipes, weekend getaways, the magic moments of life to causes that we’re passionate about.
The ‘yum’ blog is written by two women who are fanatical cooks. Here’s a brief on each:
Latha Narasimhan – a forty something proud mother, ex Tupperware Manager, and avid fan of traditional Indian art. In her own words:
“I belong to a family of great cooks. Cooking yummy delicacies was as simple as drinking a glass of water for my mother. I thought there was nothing unusual about my talents in the kitchen. But my reputation as an exceptional cook grew through the years. I could blurt out a few recipes nonstop when asked for a suggestion.
My mother and aunts have a huge number of special iyengar recipes. I wanted to preserve these for generations. This blog is the best way I can do it.”
Lakshmi, fanatical baker and Latha’s daughter, who stocks up a variety of spices in her kitchen. Every morning she enters the kitchen and a new recipe is born!
Wow.. This is really wonderful..
This is gr8. Latha, Padma, and also Latha’s daughter you are welcome in our food blogosphere I am part of it since last 5-6 months and enjoying it 🙂
I will include your blog too in my blog roll.
Thanks for all these lovely recipes 🙂
….. just out of curiosity…what kind of iyengar are you? Thenkalai, Vadagalai? from where? finding it hard to guess…
Ladies,
I’m going to be around here often! Great going!
Wow Lata & Padma..you have given us a wonderful collection of “Vegetarian” recipes. Great going. I will constantly look for new items and post too..
BTW, as regards including ‘egg’ into ‘vegetarianism’, i will probably send you some interesting things to take note of, if you provide me your email id.
Latha this template looks better than the previous one 🙂 More spacious and neat 🙂
I just noticed the time adjustments on your blog are incorrect. It is 2.47 pm and it is showing 9.11am next to the comment. Go to ‘Options’, ‘general’ scroll down to date and time 🙂
Latha , to make a blogger account go to http://www.blogger.com and sign in with your google a/c.

Hey!
Nice to see an Iyengar cooking blog in blog-o-sphere. My mother, grandmother and mother-in-law are all awesome cooks. Unfortunately, I didn’t inherit the right genes from Amma or Paati.
I found this blog while googling for traditional Iyengar recipes. Do you have a puliyodharai recipe here by any chance? I could call Amma and ask her, but if I find a recipe here, that’s good enough too! 🙂
Hi
M. M. Anuradha was my senior I think. So you are probably from the 76 batch.
Hi, Latha,and Lakshmi,
Wishing You All A Very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Hi Latha aunty…
I was really excited to see your blog. I am a novice in the field of cooking as well as blogging 🙂
Though I am a Mallu brahmin, being born and brought up in chennai, I have always lived and mingled with Tamil Brahmin culture n people. So all the festivals u mentioned are so familiar to me and I too follow some of those rituals. Of course Upaakarmam is slightly delayed for us. We do it on Thiruonam day.
Also thanks for the kodubale recipe. Living in B’lore, I have always enjoyed this snack without even knowing the name. So this was a real treat for me.
Thank u soo much…

Mami, may Lord Narasimhan bless your soul (He is our family deity, so it is easier for me to recommend you to Him:-)).
I am an expat Iyengar, can manage a few traditional Iyengar recipes from memory, but have to depend on relatives and friends for the rest. This blog is a blessing in NO disguise, it is a direct blessing from Him.
I often chat online with older relatives to get recipes but this blog makes that unnecessary.
The next recipe (Gotsu to accompany the daily pongal prasadam for the ongoing Dhanurmasam season) is dedicated to you.
Regards
Ranga
