This sounds delicious, and the combination of rice and dal must be very nutritious. It reminds me of a famous–and wonderful–Louisiana dish, Red Beans and Rice, supposedly a perfectly balanced meal. Thanks.
Hi Latha,

[…] Manja pongal […]
hi,
that recipi was very informing but could you please tell me why Manjal Ponggal is special on Aadi Velli?
And what is a toor dhal? oh by the way I’m not an Indian. Would be very knowing for me if you could reply me.
I think adding split Moong dhal in place
of Toor dhal is more authentic !!
Add chopped roasted cashew nuts and Yum !Eat
with home made Iyengar chutney pudi.
Enjoy !!
Charlie.
Charlie, you are thinking of vennpongal that’s made with Split moon dal!
Manja pongal is a totally different authentic dish which is made only with tur dal and absolutely, no cashew nuts or spices in authentic version. What mami posted is the authentic version.
What are the food items prepared especially during “Dhanurmasa” time.
Thanks
Srinivas
very nice one, I’ve been trying to incorporate this into my diet. thanks.
