This year aadi (the first day of the thamizh month aadi) falls on 17 july.
The main dish prepared on this day is aadi paal.
Ingredients
large coconut grated to get 2 cups of gratings tightly packed.
1/2 cup grated jaggery.
3 cardamoms finely ground.
Method
Grind the coconut with 4 cups water. Strain using a clean white cloth. You can also use a strainer with fine holes. Add jaggery and cardamom powder to the coconut milk and cook over a low flame for 3 minutes.
Microwave method
Mix the coconut milk,Jaggery and cardamom powder in a microwave safe container and cook in micro mode for 3 minutes.
Note
The milk needs to be just warmed. Too much heating will spoil the taste. The jaggery just needs to dissolve.
