There are several varieties of Adai. Adai-Avial is a very popular tiffin in Tamil Nadu. Here is a simple one that can be prepared quickly, if we keep the batter handy in an air tight food grade container. I also add Soya Dal to the original recipe to enhance nutrition.
Preparation time 5 minutes, Cooking time 15 minutes, Serves 3
Ingredients
Raw rice 1cup
Channa Dal 1cup.
Soya dal(broken) 2 tablespoons
Red chilli 2 nos
Cabbage(finely chopped) 1cup
Onions(finely chopped) 1cup
Corriander& curry leaves(washed) 1/2cup
Oil 3 tablespoons
Salt 3/4 teaspoon
Method
Wash and soak the rice and dals separately in luke warm water for 1 hour. Drain well. Grind the rice till it is soft with 1/2 cup water. add the dals redchillies and corriander, curry leaves and grind to a coarse batter adding another 1/2cup water. Mix the chopped cabbage and onions and salt to the batter. Heat a non stick tawa and spread the batter evenly. Spread spoonful oil and cook both sides till it is golden brown.
Serve hot with Pulikkaichal, Mulagai podi, Mixed vegetable pickle or Avial.
